About a month ago, I was at a restaurant with family and friends. Somehow the conversation turned towards the relationship between getting degrees and achieving career success. On one side of the table you had those who believed that you can’t achieve any success without getting a college degree. The other side argued that you don’t need a degree to achieve financial success in life.

Have you ever considered how the setting you choose for your novel or short story becomes one of its characters? Think of the home where the character, Norman Bates lives, in the 1960 film, Psycho. The dark, brooding house very soon takes on a life of its own with its creaking doors and dark passage ways.
